MSC World Atlantic has reached another major milestone in her construction, touching water for the first time at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France. The fourth ship in MSC Cruises’ World Class series is now entering the next phase of construction ahead of her scheduled debut from Port Canaveral in November 2027.

The float out took place on September 26, when the new ship was transferred from the construction dock into the water and moved to the shipyard’s Basin C. Work will now continue on her interiors, public areas and final technical elements before delivery to MSC Cruises in 2027.

For MSC Cruises, the milestone marks another important step toward the arrival of a ship that will play a central role in the company’s growing presence in the North American market.

MSC World Atlantic Takes Shape in Saint-Nazaire

The float out is one of the most recognisable moments in the construction of a cruise ship.

After months of block assembly and structural work inside the building dock, the vessel can finally move into the water, allowing the shipyard to concentrate on the extensive finishing work required before delivery.

MSC World Atlantic is the fourth vessel in MSC Cruises’ World Class series, following MSC World Europa, MSC World America and the soon-to-be-launched MSC World Asia.

Cruising Passion has been following this new generation of MSC ships throughout their construction. Our recent report on MSC World Asia’s successful sea trials shows just how quickly a World Class ship can progress once the major construction phase is complete.

The comparison between the first generations of the class is also becoming increasingly interesting. In our MSC World Asia vs. MSC World Europa comparison, we looked at how MSC has continued to evolve the World Class concept with new attractions, family spaces and onboard experiences.

MSC World Atlantic now represents the next chapter of that evolution.

MSC Cruises’ Next U.S. Flagship

When MSC World Atlantic enters service, she will become the 25th ship in the MSC Cruises fleet and the fourth LNG-powered vessel in the World Class series.

But the ship’s importance goes beyond the fleet number.

MSC Cruises is positioning MSC World Atlantic as its next U.S. flagship, with the vessel scheduled to sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, beginning in November 2027.

The choice of Port Canaveral places the ship in one of the most important cruise markets in North America and gives MSC Cruises another major platform from which to compete in the Caribbean.

The deployment also continues the strategy behind MSC World America, which introduced the World Class concept to the U.S. market in 2025.

MSC World Atlantic will build on that experience while combining MSC Cruises’ European design identity with features specifically developed for the American market.

The cruise line has previously described the concept as a blend of European style and American comfort.

Seven Districts and More Than 38,000 Square Metres of Public Space

One of the defining elements of MSC World Atlantic will be the ship’s seven distinct onboard districts.

Each district is designed around a different atmosphere, combining accommodation, dining, entertainment, family activities and outdoor experiences into separate environments across the ship.

The concept follows the philosophy introduced with the World Class series: rather than treating the ship as one enormous public space, MSC divides the experience into different areas designed for different moods and types of guests.

According to details previously released by MSC Cruises, MSC World Atlantic will feature more than 38,000 square metres of public space and more than 40 bars, restaurants and lounges.

Among the experiences already announced are Viva La Musica, a Latin-inspired entertainment venue, and The Clubhouse, a family-focused space making its U.S. debut with activities including bumper cars, basketball, roller skating and LEGO experiences.

The ship will also feature Cliffhanger, the over-water swing attraction first introduced on MSC World America, lifting riders around 50 metres above the ocean.

The Family Aventura district will include The Harbour, with an aquapark, waterslides, splash areas and a high ropes course.

The result is a ship designed to function as a destination in its own right rather than simply as a platform between Caribbean ports.

Seven- and 14-Night Caribbean Cruises

MSC World Atlantic will enter service with alternating seven-night and 14-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

Among the destinations included in the programme are Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas, Nassau, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Grand Turk and Puerto Plata.

Ocean Cay will have a particularly important role in the experience.

MSC Cruises has spent years developing its private island in The Bahamas, and the company is continuing to expand its Caribbean destination strategy. The recent development of Sandy Cay adds another element to that wider programme.

For MSC World Atlantic, Ocean Cay will effectively become one of the key destinations connecting the ship’s onboard experience with MSC Cruises’ growing Caribbean ecosystem.

Cruises aboard MSC World Atlantic are already available to book, well ahead of the ship’s delivery.

A Ship Designed for the American Market

There is an interesting evolution taking place within the World Class series.

MSC World Europa established the platform in Europe.

MSC World America then adapted the concept for the North American market.

MSC World Asia is taking the platform in a different direction with new Asian-inspired experiences, family attractions and entertainment concepts.

Cruising Passion recently followed MSC World Asia through her final construction phase and sea trials. The ship is scheduled to enter service in December 2026, making her the immediate predecessor to MSC World Atlantic.

The two ships will therefore enter service only about a year apart, but in very different markets.

While World Asia will begin her story in the Mediterranean before moving to the South Caribbean, World Atlantic is being positioned from the beginning around Port Canaveral and the Caribbean.

That difference could make the two ships particularly interesting to compare once both are in operation.

MSC Cruises Continues Expanding Its World Class Fleet

The arrival of MSC World Atlantic is also part of a much larger expansion programme.

MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique have already confirmed additional World Class ships beyond World Atlantic, with the series eventually growing to eight vessels.

Chantiers de l’Atlantique lists MSC World Europa, MSC World America, MSC World Asia and MSC World Atlantic as the first four ships in the series, followed by four additional World Class vessels scheduled through 2031.

Cruising Passion previously examined MSC Cruises’ wider expansion plan, including the role of World Asia and World Atlantic in the company’s future fleet strategy.

The latest milestone in Saint-Nazaire therefore has significance beyond a single ship.

It is another visible step in the expansion of one of MSC Cruises’ most important ship platforms.

What Happens Next for MSC World Atlantic?

The float out does not mean construction is finished.

Quite the opposite.

MSC World Atlantic will now remain at Chantiers de l’Atlantique while work continues on the interiors, public spaces and final technical systems.

The next major milestone will be the ship’s delivery to MSC Cruises in 2027.

From there, the focus will shift from construction to final preparation before the ship begins her inaugural Caribbean season from Port Canaveral in November.

The timing also puts MSC World Atlantic on a clear trajectory.

MSC World Asia will enter service in late 2026.

World Atlantic will follow in 2027.

And beyond them, the World Class programme will continue to grow.

For cruise watchers, the significance of the September float out is therefore easy to understand: MSC World Atlantic is no longer just a ship under construction inside a French shipyard. She is now a ship taking shape for the Caribbean.

The next chapter will be written in Saint-Nazaire over the coming months, as the hull that has now touched water begins its transformation into MSC Cruises’ next U.S. flagship.
